Simon’s Hook

Simon’s Hook, written by Karen Burnett, is a story about teases and put- downs. A boy named Simon gets a rather funny haircut from his sister after her gum gets found in his hair. Simon puts his baseball cap on and runs to play with his friends hoping no one would notice but when his cap falls off the other kids laugh and tease him. He runs home upset, but meets his grandmother on his way and she tells him a story about how to be a free fish.

If you are still biting hooks that are thrown your way listen to the recording for a review of the five ways to be a free fish. Simon’s Hook

Question: Tell about a time when a hook came your way and you did not bite.

My sister is so annoying, she often drives me nuts. Once, when I got up off a couch in the living room to go to the bathroom, and when I returned, my sister had taken over my spot, and when I told her to get off, she said, “You Left.” My parents who were in the room at the time, instantly told her to get off. Another time, when my parents told my sister it was too late for a story, she pouted and had a temper-tauntrum. My parents told her to go to her room, she slammed the door in their face as soon as she got in the room. I felt sorry for her, and when my parents said that if she didn’t stop it, there would be no TV, computer, and video games for a week, I stood up for her. She may be annoying, and sometimes she fishes, sometimes she bites, but whatever she does, she’s my sister, and love her!
