Reading Month is officially here, but our students at ODC make EVERY month Reading Month!!!

It seems that Erin Hunter’s Warrior series is the hot series this school year. Since this series involves cats, I have been introducing the students to another series involving fun-loving cats. Author Phyllis Reynolds Naylor’s cats are members of the Club of Mysteries. Start off with The Grand Escape. After years of being strictly house cats, Marco and Polo escape into the wonderful, but dangerous outside world and are sent on three challenging adventures by a group of cats known as the Club of Mysteries. Follow this book with the sequal The Healing of Texas Jake.

If you’re into thrillers, check out Jonathan Rand’s series called American Chillers.

I recommend the book, The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. They both are a very famous book written by Dr. Seuss. Green Eggs and Ham has a guy who does not like Green Eggs and Ham, but someone tries convinces him to eat it. But I am not going to spoil the story for you, so you should read the story for yourself! The Cat in the Hat is a story about two kids by themselves at home and the rain is pouring and they are bored, but then they find the Cat in the Hat and he makes them have fun. Again I am not going to spoil the whole story for you, so if you want a good read, then read these books for youself! I promise you that it is worth reading them.

A great series of books that I read was, “The Lighting Thief”, by Percy Jackson. It is about a young boy that keeps transferring from school to school. One day he finds out that his dad is a greek god, he goes through many adventures.
This book is great for third graders!

I say that you should choose Pendragon, the Pilgrims of Rayne. It has action, romance, and space/time travel. It is an awesome book. The whole series is awesome.

I like the Charlie Bone series. It’s sort of like Harry Potter, but no wizard stuff. The series is so good and so far, there are six books in total. :)

This book is totally awsome! Its called Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. It has this totally cool dragon, a brownie and a kid and they have awsome adventures.

I also advise you to read the series by Emily Rodda called Deltora Quest. They are about kids
who have huge quests to return stones to a belt. They battle a giant snake, a knight, and go acrossed a bridge over a lake……a killer lake. DUH DUH DUH

  11. avatar  Aleya J Says:

This series rocks, and it’s AR too. It’s called “The Amazing Days” of Abby Hayes. Some are about crushes and some are about trouble with family and friends. I mostly recommend this series for girls.

In a world, where no one is safe; where thousands of humans are never totally under their own control, J.K.Applegate presents… “The Animorphs!”

Do you believe in aliens? Do you believe in life other than our own? But more importantly, do you enjoy science-fiction? If so, “The Animorphs” is the perfect series for you! It’s about five middle-school kids, Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Marco, and Tobias. They decide to take a shortcut through the old abandoned construction site from the mall. Pretty innocent, don’t you think?

Wrong! I don’t want to spoil it. Don’t forget, “The Animorphs”, ROCKS!!

  13. avatar  Riley B. Says:

A great book to read would be Jackie and Me, by Dan Gutman. It is about a kid who can travel back through time. He wants to meet Jackie Robinson for the Famous African Americans project his social studies teacher gave his class. The kid learns about racism in a new twist… What is it? Read this book to find out.

  14. avatar  Garrett C. Says:

The series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is also awesome!!!!!! It is about a boy who is half mortal half god. He has to save the world from the Titans. This series has three books so far.

I recommend a book called Doll in the Garden. It is a great book that is a mystery and is kinda spooky.

It’s about a girl who rents an apartment and it has a garden in it. At night she can hear the crying of a young girl and sees a white cat. One day she finds a doll in the garden and wants to keep it, but a person tells her that the doll’s owner clearly wants it back. The spooky part is the owner, who died seventy years ago.

  19. avatar  Anne A. Says:

I would recomend the Little House Series. Those books are written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you want to learn a little bit about her just go to the 4th grade biographies section. There is a comment posted by me (Elizabeth H.). There are nine books and I’ve read them all. They are excellent!!!:)

  21. avatar  austin H. Says:

I suggest The Warriors series by Erin Hunter AND the Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini.

  22. avatar  Quinton A. Says:

I highly recommend the Warriors series. It has become extremely popular. When I started the series, it was almost unheard of. Now, however it is the kind of thing that people think “What? How can you have not heard of that series?” These books are special- they have three authors! Charith Baldry and Kate Cary take turns to write the books, and Victoria Holmes thinks up the plots. There are many of these books. Currently, there are 14 books, 1 super edition, 1 guide book, and 2 manga books. Eventually (as far as I know) there will be 24 books, 3 field guides, 4 manga books, and 4 super editions. This is a wonderful series, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

  23. avatar  Riley B. Says:

I don’t know if the school library has it, but a really good series to read would be The Children of the Red King by Jenny Nimo. They are all about a boy named Charlie Bone who goes to Bloor’s Academy, a school for “endowed” people, or people with magic talents. I think it is awesome, and just like the Spiderwick Chronicles, it might in the future be made a movie. I hope you like it.

  24. avatar  Stephen Says:
